Woodwind Ensemble Camp - Half Day Mornings

Join us this summer at the New City School of Music Woodwind Camp, a fun and inspiring half-day program for woodwind players ages 9–18! Each morning from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, students will build confidence on their instrument while improving tone, technique, rhythm, and ensemble skills in an energetic and supportive environment. Campers are grouped by level—from beginner to advanced—so everyone is challenged appropriately while still enjoying activities together. Each day includes engaging warm-ups, small-group coaching, sectionals, sight-reading games, and full ensemble rehearsals where students learn exciting music with adaptable parts so everyone can participate. Along the way they’ll develop musicianship, teamwork, and leadership skills while preparing a polished performance for a Friday performance for family and friends. Whether a student is just starting out or already an experienced player, this camp is a fantastic way to make music, meet other woodwind players, and have a great time growing as a musician.

Ian

Ian is an accomplished woodwind specialist with over 25 years of experience as a performer and educator.  He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in performance and theory and is proficient in flute, oboe, clarinet and saxophone.

As the principal oboist of the Rockland Symphony Orchestra, Ian is a sought-after performer in the Hudson Valley, known for his technical mastery and expressive musiciality.  He also lends his talents to the Rockland County Concert Band on oboe, the Maybrook Wind Ensemble on clarinet, the Reflections Jazz and Swing Orchestra on alto and tenor saxophone, and the You Bet Your Brass marching band on alto saxophone.  A founding member of the Hudson Valley Wind and Brass Ensemble, he showcases his versatility across all four woodwinds.

​​​​​​​Ian has been inspiring students at the New City School of Music since 2014.  He is passionate about helping students achieve their musical goals, whether preparing for concerts or auditions or simply enjoying the journey of making music.
